I used to be obsessed with morning routines.
Wake up at 5 AM.
Meditate for an hour.
Journal three pages.
Green smoothie.
Cold shower.
Gratitude practice.
You name it, I tried it.
Want to know what happened?
Nothing.
Well, that’s not entirely true. I was exhausted, cranky, and constantly thinking about my next “optimization.”
Here’s what nobody tells you about morning routines:
They’re mostly BS designed to sell you courses, books, and overpriced journals.
We’ve all seen those Instagram posts:
- “How I made my first million by waking up at 4 AM”
- “The morning routine of successful CEOs”
- “Why meditation changed my life”
Stop.
Just stop.
Your problem isn’t your morning routine.
Your problem is you’re trying to copy someone else’s life instead of building your own.
The Hard Truth About Routines
Here’s what successful people actually do:
They find what works for them.
Some wake up at 5 AM.
Others work until 3 AM.
Some meditate.
Others box.
The routine isn’t the magic.
The magic is in:
- Knowing yourself
- Being consistent
- Doing hard things
- Making real progress
But that’s not sexy enough to sell, is it?
The Real Problem
You think a morning routine will fix:
- Your lack of direction
- Your unfulfilling job
- Your broken relationships
- Your spiritual emptiness
It won’t.
These are deep issues that require deep solutions.
Not a green smoothie.
What Actually Works
Want to know my current morning routine?
I wake up when I feel rested.
Sometimes that’s 5 AM.
Sometimes it’s 7 AM.
Because I’m a human, not a robot.
What matters is what I do with my time, not when I do it.
Here’s what actually changes lives:
- Having a clear purpose
- Taking consistent action
- Solving real problems
- Building meaningful relationships
- Growing spiritually
None of these require a 5 AM wake-up call.
The Way Forward
Stop obsessing over routines.
Start obsessing over:
- What you’re creating
- Who you’re becoming
- How you’re serving others
- Where you’re going
Because let me tell you something…
Nobody on their deathbed wishes they’d done more morning journaling.
They wish they’d:
- Loved more deeply
- Created more boldly
- Lived more authentically
The Truth About Success
Success isn’t found in a routine.
It’s found in the messy, imperfect process of:
- Taking action
- Learning from failure
- Adjusting course
- Keeping going
Even when you sleep through your alarm.
Your Real Morning Routine
Want a morning routine that actually works?
Wake up. Show up. Do the work.
Everything else is just decoration.
Stop trying to hack your way to success.
Start building something real.
Because at the end of the day…
Your morning routine won’t save you.
But your actions might.
Your move.
P.S. Yes, I wrote this at 11 PM. No, I won’t apologize for not being part of the 5 AM club.
